Limited edition design is being celebrated at Design Miami, where the luxury fashion brand Fendi presents a selection of pieces by Maria Pergay produced in limited edition for «Fendi Casa Icons», a series of incredible collections where the bold creativity of great names in contemporary design is honoured.
This unique partnership is all about excellence, boundless creativity, mastery of materials, savoir faire, beautiful craftsmanship and a real passion and devotion to artisanship. This selection of elegant timeless items characterised by exceptional craftsmanship highlights the evident bond between leather and fur workmanship, iconic Fedi materials, and Maria Pergay’s stainless steel creations.
At 82 years old, the internationally-famed french designer Maria Pergay is one of the few female designers to have left their mark on design history. In 1968, when Pergay presented her inaugural collection of stainless steel furniture at Parisian Galerie Maison et Jardin—including her now renownedFlying Carpet daybed (1968) and Ring chair (1970)—her designs offered an antidote to the hard-edged stainless steel shapes coming from her minimalist contemporaries. By incorporating fur, leather, and other softer organic materials with steel, Pergay offered a suppleness in shape and materiality. This is what she would become known for, and beloved for, and what 45 years later would lead her to be appointed a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture.
The relationship between Fendi and Maria Pergay has started on the occasion of the opening of Fendi’s new Parisian boutique last July, for which the designer has created three special, ad hoc pieces, and has continued with the creation of a series of exceptional pieces created by the artist-designer, displayed during the 2013 Edition of ‘AD Intérieurs’ at the Enclos des Bernardins in September and in the December 2013 edition of Design Miami/.
